In April 2016, a reunion was held for alumni (campers and staff) of Camp Monocan, which operated between 1948 and 1971. The reunion was held in the camp’s old dining hall above Lake Monocan (formerly known as Deer Lake) in Wintergreen Resort’s Stoney Creek neighborhood.
We had over 100 participants at the reunion, which was the first such event held since the camp’s closing in 1971. There, current and former Scouts shared stories, explored the remnants of the camp, and reunited with old friends. Volunteers were on hand to scan and photograph documents, photos, and memorabilia.
This camp alumni questionnaire was completed by many in attendance. Responses are still welcome. It can be downloaded, printed, and mailed to the address on the form.
A few Camp Monocan Reunion patches (design above) are still available for $5.00 each. If you are interested in ordering, please click here:

I am looking for a group photo we took when I attended Aquatics Camp at Camp Monocan, late 1960’s. Troop 10 I believe my troop’s number was, from Memorial Methodist Church in Lynchburg, VA. Not sure of any dates. 1 or 2 week long intensive aquatics activities: safety, fitness, boating, swimming laps in the lake, etc. It’s here somewhere in my “archives” but has not surfaced again in a few years. A high resolution scan would be nice …
Mid 1960s? It shows a group of about 15 guys, 2 counselors in front of a Lifeguard stand if I remember correctly. Just over from the boat house if my memory serves me.
Counselors names maybe Tony and Chris.
Others guys there: M. Faulkner, F. Smith. T. McDaniel, T. Ewers, J. Dempsey … really guessing here. Some of these may not have been there. I was in Troup 10 from Memorial Mehodist Church in Lynchburg VA.
Intensive water sports training, culminating in a mile swim around the lake. Something like that.
Going through my “archives” again as I type this, hoping someone else might have a copy.
ThankYou!!!
